While I'm working on my more personal scripts, check out my scripts from the past. There are some from NYU and some that are first drafts to productions of the future.

Quarter-Life Crisis

Quarter-Life Crisis is an NYU TV dramedy that I'm showrunning. It focuses on the transition from teenhood to adulthood. It focuses on the awkwardness of self-discovery through Sage, a socially naive, determined, caring young woman. She discovers she’s unable to conquer her long-time dream of attending Columbia University with her best friend, Ripley. Instead, she takes on the responsibility of caring for her Mom, Ellie, who has stage three colon cancer. Outside of caring for her Mom, Sage works in a record store under the guidance and love of her manager, Forest. He’s a fun-loving cuddly bear who treats Sage like a younger sister and gives her advice from time to time, even more so now that Ripley is off at Columbia. When Sage is forced into singing for an open mic night, she re-meets Brandon, a rich playboy from high school who is now an amateur music producer. Throughout the series we watch Sage balance her newfound interest in music with her tough personal life.

Emotions | NYU Sight & Sound Filmmaking Final | Lauryn Charliah

Elloooooo!!! Here's my final project from the spring. In the spring semester, I took a filmmaking class where we learned some film history and techniques. In the class, every student created five short films and were told to include specific techniques. For final projects there were no themes or techniques given, so this brainchild's inspiration came from a different place. For a long time, since middle school or high school, I wanted to use one of Brenda Lee's songs for a short film. Lately, I have also been interested in creating more music videos, ones similar to Billie Eilish where the concept is simple but very engaging. When I explained to others what the project was they didn't get the full picture, but when they saw it I felt like they were invoked with a feeling. That's what I mainly wanted - to express this feeling I have had often. I have many times, masked my emotions to become a new version of myself to please other people. That's what this project is all about. Hopefully, you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed directing it! Laterzzzz!!! Rhythmic Movements | Directed by Lauryn Charliah | Audio Project

Directed by (me) Lauryn Charliah Starring Maury Allums Jr., Isaiah Allums, John Allums, Miracle Stanley, & Mary Moore A short audio project based on the feelings towards teenage sex - feelings that were collected from four interviews with the main cast of the project. Another project created for NYU, but now to be enjoyed by you! Subscribe, Like, & Share! _________________________________ Theme/Objective: Originally the project was supposed to only focus on one person, a young teenage girl, and her dealing with thoughts about sex before, right after, and later after. However, since that didn’t provide for much of a story, I had to think up something else that was still related to the topic of teen sex. When doing the interviews for the background thoughts the characters conflict with, they made me think about including both the male and female perspectives. While I know it is 2020, it seemed easier on me to just do the male and female perspectives. When I was writing I thought about those old videos based in the 50s and 40s where they had short skits based on topics like teenage dating, friendships, sex, and so on. That’s where the whole script and flow of the story spawned from. The story is a short modern-day skit based around teenage sex. Since it is quick, I still hope that people take something away from the skit - maybe that sex is quick, but results in things beyond what some are able to handle (pregnancy, bleeding, being hard, and even separation from the other person and yourself). _________________________________ Music used: Lest We Forget - Esperanza Spalding Smooth Operator - Sade I Wanna Sex You Up - Color Me Badd Feels Good - Tony! nine. | directed by Lauryn Charliah | Audio Project

Directed by (me) Lauryn Charliah Starring Lyric Willow (my sister) A short audio interview with a nine-year-old. This was first established for my NYU class, but now it's here for you to enjoy. Thankfully, it made me a great listener and I would not be as interested in writing. However, it still would have been nice to have someone listen to me. Therefore, for this interview project, I decided to interview my youngest sibling, Lyric. She is nine years old and is always speaking her mind. On the other hand, there were certain questions I wanted to ask, specifically to reach her point of view. I wanted to know her point of view of the world; what things were going on in her mind. The questions I used were not all featured in the final mix, but I believe the questions I did include really honed in on my theme. The theme of seeing a nine-year-old African American girl’s point of view. I did not need or want her to feel uncomfortable, so I made sure the questions were simple questions and I tried not to follow up on touchy subjects. For instance, I knew Mom was going to be a sore subject, she was giving me the look and tone of “If I speak about, I will cry”. With that being said, I decided to shift the focus to the next question. All in all, the questions were supposed to grasp the attention of an everyday adult audience that would like to hear what a little girl had to say about the world and herself. _________________________________ Music used: Carefree - Kevin MacLeod Maury Allums freestyle Withu - Blvk _________________________________ #LaurynCharliah #LegitnessLauryn #Filmmaking
